Knitted very recently a 6 ft long scarf from Lion Brand yarn from a kid's knit a poncho kit, very large wooden knitting needles come with it. I just use a plain garter or knit stitch.
Am working on a multicolored scarf for a kid from one ball of yarn 7 stitches wide, with knit stitch odd or even number of cast on stitches are OK. Will make the scarf as long as the one ball will allow me and leaving enough for make fringes.
Another knitting project involves knitting in basketweave stitch. this is a soft acrylic scarf for a friend who finds regular sheep's wool scratchy.
The scarf had 30 stitches cast on and alternates every 5 rows to look like a checker board, I goofed and it turned out alternating every 7 rows. Need a row counter.
Begin with, it is 5 knit stitches across, 5 purl stitches across, alternating like that to the end of the first 5 rows, then do the exact opposite for the next 5 rows with 5 purl stitches across then 5 knit stitches across alternating to the end of each row,.... and then next 5 rows just like in the beginning 5 knit stitches, 5 purl stitches across doing this to the very end of the scarf for however long it is intended to be. Maybe I will just go to the end of the first ball, or I will add a second of the same color if I have it and work it until I am pleased with the length or until it is maybe 5 ft long, depending on how much of the same color of yarn I have.
It was to be a birthday gift or a Christmas gift for my friend, but at the rate I am going, unless I get stitch markers to keep track of counting my stitches, it will be several years until he gets this scarf!
